In 1933, Jesus gave the Divine Mercy image to a Polish Nun,
named Sister Faustina. People thought she was crazy.
Who was she to receive an image and messages from Jesus?
Finally, a priest named, Father Michael Sopocko, believed her.
He arranged for an artist to meet with Sister Faustina, so that
the image may be created. Pope John Paul II recognized the
importance of this image and proclaimed that the Sunday after
Easter should be celebrated as "Divine Mercy Sunday." He
canonized Sister Faustina as a Saint on April 30, 2000.
The Divine Mercy Lay Order was founded on July 23,
2001.
